Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, exuded confidence as he appeared before the Senate for ministerial screening on Monday, July 31, 2023, in Abuja. President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of the prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart as a minister in his cabinet received positive remarks from Wike, who pledged unwavering dedication to serving the country.
During his time as governor of the oil-rich Niger Delta state from May 2015 to May 2023, Wike spearheaded numerous infrastructural projects, completing them with the collaboration of politicians across party lines. His commitment and passion for the job were evident during his tenure, a quality he believes is essential for any minister aspiring to make a meaningful impact.
“I thank Mr. President for nominating me. I believe, knowing how hungry Mr. President is to solve the problems of Nigeria, we have no choice but to give him the required support. And I can assure you, if I am confirmed in whatever capacity, Mr. President will not regret nominating me,” Wike asserted during the screening.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Wike’s competence and capacity to deliver in office, validating his suitability for the ministerial role. As the Senate commenced the screening process for the first batch of nominees, 20 out of the 28 candidates completed their documentation, with those pending reportedly out of the country.
Wike’s appointment as the only PDP chieftain in the ministerial list of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration showcases President Tinubu’s intention to foster inclusivity and embrace talents from different political backgrounds. This move signals a commitment to a united government, where expertise and dedication supersede party affiliations.
As the screening process continues, Nigerians eagerly await the confirmation of Wike and other nominees who demonstrate a genuine desire to serve the nation. Wike’s promise of dedicated service and commitment to President Tinubu’s vision instills hope for a brighter future as Nigeria continues its journey towards progress and development.
