In a commendable move to support the education of the rescued girls from the Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri, the Kebbi State Government has pledged to offer them scholarships. The State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris Kairan Gwandu, made this announcement during a courtesy visit from the Nigerian/TUILP International College, a Turkish organization, in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
The harrowing incident occurred on June 17, 2021, when a gang of bandits attacked FGC Birnin Yauri, abducting both male and female students, along with two teachers. The female students endured over a year in captivity before they were finally freed, thanks to the relentless efforts of the government and their parents.
The governor expressed his commitment to support the girls’ education, enabling them to pursue their dreams in various fields. Through this scholarship initiative, the government aims to empower these young girls to achieve their aspirations and contribute to society positively.
Comrade Dr Nasir Idris Kairan Gwandu also praised the Nigerian/TUILP International College for its dedication to promoting health activities, and he pledged to collaborate with the organization on projects related to education, health, and youth empowerment. The Turkish organization is known for its sincerity and integrity, and the governor acknowledged its significant contributions to the development of various sectors.
The group leader and Group Managing Director of Surat Group of Companies, Mr Yasar Ovenc, assured the governor of their full support in advancing education, health, and youth empowerment. He specifically emphasized their focus on girl-child education, reaffirming their commitment to offering scholarships to the kidnapped Yauri girl students.
With this partnership between the Kebbi State Government and the Turkish organization, there is hope for a brighter future for the rescued girls and the state as a whole. As the government continues to invest in infrastructure and development projects, such as road construction and rehabilitation, the state’s progress is set to reach new heights.
Governor Comrade Dr Nasir Idris Kairan Gwandu further stated that by next week, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed to complete the state secretariat, providing office accommodations for civil servants across the state. This move is expected to enhance efficiency and public service delivery.
The governor called upon the people of Kebbi State to extend maximum support and cooperation to the Turkish organization as they work together to drive progress and development in the state.
The promise of scholarships for the rescued girls signifies a crucial step towards rebuilding their lives and ensuring access to quality education. This initiative is aligned with the commitment to prioritize education, particularly for the girl child, laying the foundation for a more prosperous and inclusive society in Kebbi State.
