This move, if approved by the National Assembly, will significantly expand the country’s administrative divisions from 36 to 67 states, surpassing the 50-state structure of the United States.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu presided over the plenary session on Thursday, during which the proposal was presented. The committee, chaired by Kalu, outlined the proposed states across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
