Addressing the challenges faced by the nation, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, highlighting the successful election of the 7th consecutive civilian government as proof of this commitment.
One of the key announcements made by the President was the end of the fuel subsidy, a move aimed at ensuring a more stable and prosperous economy for all Nigerians. He acknowledged the hardships brought about by this decision but emphasized that reform is necessary for future greatness.
To alleviate the burden on citizens, President Tinubu outlined a series of measures, including a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage for low-grade workers. Additionally, an Infrastructure Support Fund was established to help states provide relief packages to combat rising food and commodity prices.
In an effort to lower transportation costs and boost the economy, the President announced the deployment of cheaper and safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the nation. These buses will operate at a fraction of the current fuel prices, positively impacting transport fares and providing new opportunities for transport operators.
President Tinubu also emphasized the importance of reforming the Central Bank and improving monetary policy for the benefit of all Nigerians. Wise tax policy, investment in enterprises, and increased support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises were highlighted as steps toward economic fairness and development.
On the front of social welfare, the President announced the expansion of cash transfer programs to an additional 15 million vulnerable households, demonstrating the government’s commitment to providing for those in need.
In matters of national security, President Tinubu recognized the sacrifices made by the security forces in safeguarding the nation. He pledged to equip these forces adequately to fulfill their vital responsibilities.
The President concluded his address by expressing his commitment to unity, compassion, and courage as the driving forces behind a better Nigeria. He called upon all Nigerians to join the journey towards remaking the beloved nation into its better self.
In closing, President Tinubu wished all Nigerians a happy 63rd Independence Day and invoked God’s blessings upon the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
