Ghana Fail to Qualify for AFCON 2025 After Draw with Angola

Ghana’s bid to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco ended in disappointment following a 1-1 draw against Angola on Friday. The Black Stars, who needed a win to secure their place, took an early lead through a stunning free kick by Jordan Ayew in the 18th minute.

Ayew’s perfectly placed strike offered a glimmer of hope in what had been a challenging qualifying campaign. The team maintained control for much of the first half, with goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen making a vital penalty save to keep their lead intact at halftime.

However, Angola intensified their efforts in the second half and eventually found the equalizer. Substitute Zini capitalized on poor marking to head home, ending Ghana’s qualification hopes.

This result marks a significant setback for Ghana, as they fail to qualify for AFCON for the first time since 2004. Angola secured their spot, while Sudan remains in a favorable position to qualify with a point in their final match. Niger also retains an outside chance if they beat Ghana and Sudan loses.

Ghana will wrap up their disappointing campaign on Monday against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
