Governor Zulum Begins Construction of Third Flyover in Maiduguri

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has initiated the construction of a new flyover at the West-end Roundabout in Maiduguri, the capital city. This marks the third flyover project undertaken by the Zulum administration, following the previous construction at the Customs Roundabout in 2020, which was commissioned by former President Muhammadu Buhari, and another completed this year, awaiting commissioning.

Accompanied by Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan representing Borno Central and the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, Governor Zulum performed the flag-off ceremony on Saturday. The project, scheduled to be completed within a year, is part of Governor Zulum’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in major cities of Borno State, as pledged during his election campaign.

Governor Zulum emphasized that the construction of the flyover aims not only to enhance the aesthetics of the area but also to alleviate congestion, facilitate smoother traffic flow, and generate job opportunities for the youth. He reiterated the government’s determination to complete all initiated projects before the end of the administration’s tenure.

Highlighting the significance of the project, Governor Zulum stated that 50% of the construction funds have already been disbursed to the contractor, Eighteenth Engineering Company (EEC), with an assurance of timely payment of the remaining balance. The Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, provided technical details of the flyover, mentioning its length, piers, abutments, spans, and key features such as elastomer bearing and pedestrian barriers.

The representative of EEC, Mr. Gao Kun, pledged to Governor Zulum the delivery of quality work and adherence to the project’s timeline. The construction of the West-end flyover is expected to significantly contribute to the development and modernization of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, fulfilling the government’s commitment to urban renewal and infrastructure improvement.
