Sterling Bank has unveiled a bold new initiative to redefine access to higher education in Nigeria through the launch of its ₦2 billion “Beyond Education” scholarship fund. The program, introduced in partnership with Miva Open University, is designed to provide fully funded university education for 600 young Nigerians and includes a structured pathway to employment through internships and job placements.
Launched on Democracy Day, June 12, 2025, the scholarship targets Nigerian citizens aged 16 to 35 across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Eligible candidates may apply directly or be nominated by others, with final selection determined through a public voting process conducted by Sterling Bank customers. The initiative is open to first-time university students and does not require JAMB or UTME results, removing traditional barriers to entry for underserved populations.
Successful applicants will be awarded full tuition coverage at Miva Open University, a fully accredited digital institution. While the scholarship covers academic fees, students are expected to fund personal expenses such as internet access, digital devices, and housing where applicable. Fields of study include high-impact areas such as technology, business, public health, and social sciences—sectors with growing relevance in Nigeria’s workforce landscape.

In a significant expansion of the initiative, Sterling Bank has introduced a professional development component that offers select scholarship recipients paid internship opportunities within the bank. These internships come with competitive stipends and formal mentorship, and they are intended to serve as a direct pipeline to long-term employment within the organization. This addition strengthens the scholarship’s value proposition by aligning academic achievement with practical career experience.
