JUST IN: Former Kebbi PDP Governorship Candidate Isa Galaudu Resigns From Party

Senator Isa Galaudu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2019 elections in Kebbi State, has formally announced his resignation from the party.

Galaudu, who previously served as Chief of Staff to a former Senate President, confirmed his exit in a letter dated August 20, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Augie North, Muhammadu Danbuga. He stated that the decision takes immediate effect.

In his letter, the former lawmaker and ex-banker explained that his resignation was prompted by ongoing developments within the PDP, which he described as heading toward collapse.

“It is obvious that the PDP is being controlled by politicians of the national ruling party,” Galaudu wrote, stressing that the situation compelled him to leave.

Senator Galaudu represented Kebbi North in the National Assembly from 2011 to 2015 and later contested as the PDP governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections. He also served as a board member of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

Meanwhile, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kebbi State has issued a public safety warning to residents living along the banks of River Goronyo and River Niger.

The directive followed plans for a controlled release of water from nearby dams, a measure aimed at protecting the structural integrity of the dams but one that is expected to cause a significant rise in river levels.

In a statement released on Sunday, Assistant Director and Head of Media and Communication, Larai Saminu Nazo, stressed the urgency of the situation.

“We cannot overstate the seriousness of this warning. Residents in flood-prone communities must relocate immediately to safer areas,” she said.

The NOA further explained that it is working closely with emergency agencies and River Basin Authorities to ensure timely communication and support for communities at risk.

Senator Galaudu’s resignation marks another political shift within the PDP in Kebbi State, even as the region faces urgent challenges from looming floods. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and prioritise safety in the days ahead.
