The Kebbi State Government has directed the shutdown of all public and private secondary schools, as well as state-owned tertiary institutions, following recent security incidents in parts of the state.

The directive was issued on Sunday in a joint statement by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Abubakar-Tunga, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Bande, in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the statement, the temporary closure affects all categories of schools across the state, including State Polytechnic Dakingari, Kebbi State University of Science and Technology Aliero, College of Health Sciences and Technology Jega, and College of Education Argungu. However, the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery in Birnin Kebbi is exempted from the shutdown and will continue academic activities.

The commissioners explained that the decision became necessary as a proactive measure in response to recent security threats. They urged school authorities and the general public to remain calm, assuring that the government is taking steps to safeguard students and staff across the state.

They added that a new resumption date will be announced once the security situation improves.

The state government encouraged all educational institutions to comply fully with the directive as part of ongoing efforts to protect lives and maintain peace.
