The Libya Football Federation (LFF) has taken steps to challenge the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision regarding the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria. According to reports, the LFF has filed an appeal against the ruling that awarded three goals and three points to Nigeria, in addition to a $50,000 fine imposed on Libya.
The controversy surrounding the match began when the Nigerian team faced significant logistical challenges, including a redirected flight and extended delays, during their trip to Benghazi for the return leg of the qualifier. As a result, CAF canceled the match and declared Nigeria the winners by a score of 3-0.

The CAF Disciplinary Board, chaired by Ousmane Kane, found Libya to have breached Article 31 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. However, the LFF disputes this decision, deeming it unfair and potentially damaging to their chances in the AFCON qualifiers.
To defend their position, the Libyan authorities have engaged the services of Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas. The outcome of this appeal could have significant implications for the ongoing qualification process, particularly for Nigeria, who are on the cusp of securing their place in the competition.
The appeal process is currently underway, and the decision of the CAF Appeals Committee will be closely watched by football fans and officials alike.
