Kaduna Governor Offers Scholarships to 137 Rescued Schoolchildren

In a heartening development, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has pledged free education scholarships for the 137 recently freed schoolchildren from LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School. Addressing the children at the Government House in Kaduna, Governor Sani assured that the Uba Sani Foundation would oversee the educational support, alongside renovations for the school and Kuriga community.

The governor also highlighted the psychological support provided to the children, including counseling and therapy sessions, recognizing the trauma they endured during their captivity. Tragically, one of the kidnapped teachers, Mallam Abubakar, lost his life due to complications while in captivity. In response, the state government has committed to sponsoring the education of the deceased teacher’s children and providing financial assistance of N10 million to his family.

It’s worth noting that the Federal Government, as confirmed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reiterated that no ransom was paid for the release of the abducted pupils.

The abduction occurred on March 7, 2024, when hoodlums kidnapped the schoolchildren and demanded N1 billion for their release. However, through a collaborative effort between the military and local authorities from neighboring Zamfara State, the children were rescued on March 24, 2024.

This gesture from Governor Uba Sani underscores the importance of prioritizing education and providing support to communities affected by such tragic events.
