In a remarkable display of commitment to education and healthcare, Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, recently undertook unannounced visits to educational institutions and a hospital. The purpose of these visits was to assess the state of affairs firsthand and make a meaningful impact on the education and healthcare sectors in the state.
School Visits: A Focus on Education
Governor Idris kicked off his surprise visits at Government Girls Unity College and Nagari College in Birnin Kebbi. His primary goal was to evaluate the resumption of staff and students after the holiday break and to gauge the overall condition of these schools.
At Government Girls Unity College, Birnin Kebbi, the Governor expressed his disappointment over the low turnout of staff and students. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the educational environment, citing initiatives like increased feeding allowances and infrastructure improvements. Governor Idris stated, “Because of the importance we attach to education, we increased feeding allowance. We also make sure that students have a good learning environment. You know I am a teacher myself.”
Governor Idris generously donated two million naira to the staff and students of the school as a gesture of support. He urged the school administration to work closely with the Permanent Secretary to address the challenges faced.
Meanwhile, at Nagari College, Birnin Kebbi, the Governor was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic turnout of both students and teachers. He commended their dedication and urged them to maintain this positive momentum. To express his appreciation, Governor Idris donated two cows, 20 bags of rice, and two million naira to the school.
Commitment to Healthcare
Not limiting his visits to educational institutions, Governor Idris also paid a visit to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi. His concern was evident as he observed the hospital’s congestion. In response, he expressed his intention to explore the possibility of relocating some hospital units to Kebbi Medical Center in Kalgo. Additionally, he assured that the issue of inadequate manpower facing the hospital would be addressed promptly.
