Kebbi Students Celebrate as Gov Idris Approves Full Payment of University Fees

In a remarkable move to ease financial burdens on families and empower young citizens, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has approved over ₦422 million for the payment of registration fees for 6,127 Kebbi State indigenes studying at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) and the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) for the 2024/2025 academic session.

According to the Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. Abubakar Tunga, this approval reflects the governor’s deep commitment to education as a tool for transformation. During a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner disclosed that the disbursement was structured as follows:

• ₦211,626,378.30 for 3,922 students at the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK)
• ₦210,475,577.00 for 2,205 students at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS)

This initiative, hailed as one of the most impactful in recent years, comes at a time when many parents are grappling with economic hardship and rising education costs. The intervention has sparked widespread celebration across the state, especially among students and their families.

Governor Idris, a strong advocate of educational equity, has repeatedly stressed that no Kebbi indigene should be denied education due to lack of funds. He had earlier supported thousands of students with scholarships and is now expanding the scope of government sponsorship to ensure access to quality tertiary education.

Beyond the current disbursement, Hon. Tunga confirmed that similar payments will soon be extended to Kebbi students in other institutions across Nigeria. He also lauded the governor for his unwavering dedication, describing the approval as “a generational investment in human capital.”

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, emphasized that the gesture is part of the administration’s larger blueprint to build a skilled, educated, and empowered youth population.

As Kebbi continues to prioritize education under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration, this landmark support not only brings relief to thousands of students—it sends a clear message: Kebbi State is serious about the future.
