JAMB Policy Meeting to Determine Cut-off Marks for 2023 Admissions into Tertiary Institutions
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to determine the cut-off marks for admissions into universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions on June 24, 2023. The decision-making event, which will take place at the National Judicial Institute, will bring together heads of various tertiary institutions and regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, and National Commission for Colleges of Education.
According to Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Director of Public Affairs at JAMB, the Policy Meeting will only welcome two representatives from each tertiary institution. These representatives will consist of the Head of the Institution and one official nominated by the Head. The meeting will address critical issues pertaining to the education sector and discuss matters of national importance.
Apart from the presentation of the Registrar, JAMB, on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Policy Meeting will focus on other significant topics. These include charting policy directions for the nation’s tertiary institutions, setting admission guidelines, analyzing application statistics and candidates’ performance, as well as evaluating the 2023 Admission exercise.

One of the key outcomes of the Policy Meeting will be the determination of the acceptable minimum admissible score for all admissions conducted by tertiary institutions across Nigeria. It should be noted that in 2022, the meeting granted institutions the authority to set their minimum allowable cut-off marks for admission, which they cannot fall below once adopted and general concessions are reached.
The decision reached at the Policy Meeting will greatly influence the admission process for the 2023 academic year. Students, parents, and educational stakeholders eagerly await the announcement of the cut-off marks, as it plays a vital role in determining eligibility and competitiveness for admission into tertiary institutions.
As the education sector continues to evolve, the Policy Meeting serves as a platform for stakeholders to deliberate and make informed decisions that shape the future of tertiary education in Nigeria. The meeting will contribute to ensuring a fair and transparent admission process, while maintaining the quality and standards of education in the country.
