The League of Progressive Groups in Nigeria (LPGN), a prominent non-governmental organization, has called upon President-Elect Bola Ahmed-Tinubu to consider Governor Atiku Bagudu for the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) based on his exceptional administrative skills. The National Coordinator of LPGN, Bashar Buhari, conveyed this recommendation during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.

In a letter addressed to the President-Elect, the LPGN congratulated him on his well-deserved victory and emphasized the importance of assembling a competent and experienced team to ensure good governance for the Nigerian citizens. The organization specifically proposed Senator Bagudu for the role of SGF, citing his extensive experience, unwavering loyalty to the party, and instrumental role in Senator Tinubu’s emergence.

The LPGN commended Bagudu for his remarkable achievements as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), which involved uniting the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and mobilizing his colleagues to advocate for power shift to the south. Additionally, Bagudu’s role as the Chairman and Chief Returning Officer of the APC 2022 Convention/Primary Elections, which resulted in Senator Tinubu’s candidacy, demonstrated his organizational skills, administrative acumen, and commitment to the party’s success.

Buhari emphasized that Bagudu’s dedication to the collective development of Nigeria was evident in his Pan-Nigerian disposition, as he advocated for a collaborative approach to accelerate economic growth beyond the borders of Kebbi state. The LPGN highlighted Bagudu’s successful partnership with the Lagos State Government on Rice Farming and Processing, along with similar collaborations with other sub-national governments, which exemplified his commitment to a common sustainable agenda.

The organization believed that Bagudu’s appointment would reward party loyalty, bring stability, and offer a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to the new government. Bagudu’s exemplary performance as Governor of Kebbi State for two consecutive terms further demonstrated his ability to deliver results. His diverse background, encompassing academia, the banking industry, and politics, equipped him with a profound understanding of the economy, an extensive network, and exceptional administrative acumen.

The LPGN urged President-Elect Bola Ahmed-Tinubu to seriously consider appointing Senator Bagudu as SGF or any other suitable position, asserting that such a decision would be a step in the right direction towards realizing the much-needed change and fulfilling the Renewed Hope agenda that Nigerians have long yearned for.

As President-Elect Bola Ahmed-Tinubu prepares to assume office, the recommendation from the League of Progressive Groups adds weight to the importance of building a competent and experienced team to drive Nigeria’s development agenda forward. Bagudu’s potential appointment as SGF would not only signify the reward for party loyalty but also bring forth his wealth of experience and fresh perspectives, contributing significantly to the achievement of the APC’s goals and aspirations.
