In the wake of the recent military coup in Niger, MaxAir Limited has reported that one of its aircraft, a B-747-400, is presently stranded in Niamey. The aircraft had completed its mission of safely transporting the last group of Niger pilgrims, and it is currently awaiting approval to depart from the volatile region.
The aviation firm, in a statement released on Thursday, expressed regret over the situation, assuring that the safety of the 360 Nigerian pilgrims and 18 crew members on board is a top priority. The aircraft had landed in Niamey after successfully carrying out its mission, but the unfolding political unrest has led to the suspension of all institutions and closure of Niger’s borders.
MaxAir Limited emphasized its commitment to ensuring the well-being of both passengers and crew and stated that its management team is in constant communication with local authorities to find a prompt resolution to the situation.
