Multichoice Raises DSTV and GOTV Subscription Prices by 20% Amid $72 Million Q3 Loss

Multichoice, the parent company of Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) and Go Television (GOTV), has implemented a 20% price increase on all their packages, effective from November 6, 2023. This decision comes as the company reports a substantial $72 million loss in its financial statement for the third quarter.

The revised price list affects all DSTV and GOTV packages, impacting millions of subscribers who will now have to pay higher fees to enjoy their favorite shows, especially during the holiday season. The move has stirred concerns among Nigerians as they grapple with the economic challenges.

According to reports, Multichoice attributed the price hike to the escalating cost of business operations. The company cited factors such as purchasing content in dollars while earning revenue in naira, rising diesel costs, tax payments, and licensing fees amounting to billions. The decision to increase subscription fees was seen as a necessary measure to sustain the quality and diversity of content offered by DSTV and GOTV.
