The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an urgent public notification regarding a batch of unwholesome Sprite 50cl glass bottles that are currently circulating in Nigeria. This alarming discovery came to light after NAFDAC’s post-marketing surveillance unit thoroughly investigated a consumer complaint.
Upon investigation, it was found that more than five crates of the implicated batch of Sprite 50cl glass bottles were contaminated with particles. NAFDAC promptly took action by collecting samples from the affected batch for laboratory analysis in their accredited facility. Concurrently, the Agency has instructed its zonal directors and state coordinators to conduct surveillance and recall the contaminated product.
In order to identify the root cause of the contamination and ensure compliance with marketing authorization, NAFDAC will be conducting a comprehensive current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) Inspection at the Nigerian Bottling Company Limited’s manufacturing site in Abuja. The company has also been directed to initiate a recall of the affected batch and maintain close communication with NAFDAC for proper monitoring.
The specific details of the product are as follows: Sprite 50cl glass bottles manufactured by Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (Abuja plant) with the batch number BN: AZ6 22:32, manufacturing date (MFD) of 180423, and best before (BB) date of 180424.
NAFDAC is urging distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise utmost caution and vigilance to avoid the consumption, sale, or distribution of this unwholesome product. It is crucial to carefully examine the authenticity and physical condition of Sprite 50cl glass bottles before purchase or consumption.
Individuals who possess the aforementioned batch of Sprite 50cl glass bottles are advised to promptly submit their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office. Additionally, if anyone has consumed this product and experienced any adverse reactions or events, it is strongly recommended to seek immediate medical attention from a qualified healthcare professional.
