The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially announced that registration for the 2025 General Certificate in Education (GCE) External Examination is now open. This year’s GCE will be conducted as a computer-based test across various centers nationwide, offering candidates flexibility and modern exam delivery.
Registration began on July 7, 2025, and will run until November 18, 2025, by midnight. Candidates interested in participating are encouraged to register early to avoid late fees.

NECO 2025 GCE Registration Fees

The standard registration fee for the NECO 2025 GCE is ₦30,000. This amount includes essential items such as a four-figure mathematical table and a plastic certificate jacket. For candidates who miss the initial deadline, late registration is available from November 19 to 25, but will attract an additional ₦5,000 surcharge. Those who choose to register as walk-in candidates must pay ₦43,000.

How to Register for NECO GCE 2025

To register for the 2025 NECO GCE, candidates should: Visit the official NECO registration portal at www.neco.gov.ng. Navigate to the SSCE External section and create an account. Purchase a registration quota online. Visit an accredited cybercafé for biometric data capture and completion of registration forms. Payment can be made through ATM cards, online banking, USSD, mobile wallets, or at any commercial bank branch.

Important Requirements

Candidates must have a valid National Identification Number (NIN), and they’re required to upload a recent passport photograph with a white background, taken within the last six months. Biometric data captured during registration will also be used for verification before the examination. Any mismatch may result in disqualification.

Exam Dates and Further Details

The NECO GCE exams are scheduled to take place between November 26 and December 13, 2025. After successful registration, candidates should print their exam timetable and a photo card, which must be signed by an approved referee, such as a school principal, religious leader, commissioned police or military officer (minimum rank Captain), senior civil servant (Grade Level 14 or above), or an experienced legal practitioner. Candidates with disabilities should indicate their special needs during registration to ensure proper arrangements are made. NECO has emphasized that registration fees are non-refundable. Additionally, only one registration is allowed per candidate, and duplicate entries will be cancelled. Electronic devices and uniforms are not permitted during the examination; candidates must appear in mufti and are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled exam time.
