NELFUND and Kebbi Government Partner to Expand Student Loan Access

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has joined forces with the Kebbi State Government to expand access to student loans, a collaboration aimed at ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder Nigerian students from pursuing higher education. This partnership was solidified during a sensitization meeting held in Kebbi State, where key stakeholders from various tertiary institutions across the state gathered to discuss the student loan program.

Leading the NELFUND delegation was the Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, who was welcomed by the Kebbi State Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isa Abubakar Tugga. The meeting provided a platform for robust discussions, where Mr. Sawyerr emphasized NELFUND’s mission to make education accessible to all by offering interest-free loans that cover tuition fees and living expenses. He explained that NELFUND was established to ensure that no Nigerian student is denied the opportunity for quality education due to financial difficulties.

Mr. Sawyerr addressed concerns from stakeholders regarding the application process, repayment terms, and the criteria for institutions to participate in the program. He stressed the importance of cooperation from educational institutions, particularly in the timely submission of student data, which is crucial for processing loan applications efficiently. This message was well-received, with many institutions pledging their support to facilitate the smooth implementation of the program in Kebbi State.

He also praised the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration played a pivotal role in the establishment of NELFUND. Mr. Sawyerr acknowledged that the creation of NELFUND and the launch of the student loan scheme reflect President Tinubu’s dedication to the future of Nigeria through education and youth empowerment.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both NELFUND and the Kebbi State Government expressing a strong commitment to continuing their collaboration. The Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isa Abubakar Tugga, thanked NELFUND for its efforts and assured that the state would work diligently to ensure that all eligible students benefit from the program.

As the session concluded, it was evident that this partnership had set the stage for a more inclusive educational environment in Kebbi State. Mr. Sawyerr assured attendees that NELFUND would return in the near future to present cheques to benefiting students and institutions, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to supporting Nigerian students throughout their academic journey.
