Nigeria’s tech ecosystem is set for a major boost as Meta partners with NITDA and other key agencies to launch the Llama Impact Accelerator, a groundbreaking AI programme designed to empower local startups.

In a bold move to deepen the adoption of artificial intelligence across critical sectors in Nigeria, Meta has joined forces with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy to unveil the Llama Impact Accelerator — an eight-month AI support programme for promising Nigerian startups.

The accelerator is tailored to help Nigerian startups build innovative solutions using Meta’s open-source Llama AI models. The focus areas include:

  • Agriculture
  • Security and Public Safety

  • Wildcard Sector (for unique ideas outside the core areas)

The programme is designed to support the selected startups with mentorship, resources, and exposure needed to turn their ideas into impactful solutions.

Programme Breakdown:

Why It Matters

This initiative aligns with the Nigerian government’s national strategy to harness emerging technologies for development. With a rising number of tech-driven businesses, the focus on artificial intelligence is a leap toward driving inclusive innovation, solving real-world problems, and boosting the digital economy.

According to Sade Dada, Meta’s Head of Public Policy for Anglophone West Africa, this partnership is about making AI tools not only accessible but also relevant to Nigeria’s unique challenges.

Similarly, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized that the programme is a timely intervention that will strengthen the country’s AI capacity and equip innovators to tackle national priorities using technology.

Who Can Apply?

Startups operating within the AI space in Nigeria — especially those using or willing to explore Meta’s Llama models — are encouraged to apply. Whether you’re building a platform to digitize farming operations or designing AI tools to improve healthcare delivery, this accelerator could be your launchpad.
