The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government to immediately reverse the recent increase in petrol prices, describing it as a severe blow to the welfare of Nigerians. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, issued a statement on Wednesday, condemning the price hike, which he claims exacerbates the already dire economic conditions in the country.
According to the PDP, the timing of the fuel price increase is especially troubling, as many Nigerians are struggling under the weight of rising inflation and unemployment. Ologunagba noted that the decision to raise fuel prices without considering the current economic hardships is not only insensitive but also has the potential to trigger widespread unrest.

The PDP criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing it of being disconnected from the realities faced by the majority of Nigerians. The statement pointed out that over 150 million citizens are now living below the poverty line, with businesses collapsing and unemployment soaring above 40 percent. The party argued that such economic mismanagement is driving multinational companies out of the country, further compounding the challenges faced by Nigerians.
The PDP emphasized that it has repeatedly offered constructive advice on managing the economy, which has been ignored by the current administration. The party urged President Tinubu to reconsider the recent fuel price hike and other policies that have contributed to the worsening economic situation.
Ologunagba asserted that with effective and transparent management of the nation’s resources, including enhancing the country’s refining capacity, petrol prices should not exceed N250 per liter. He called on the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and take immediate action to alleviate the economic pressures on the populace.
The PDP’s demand for a reversal of the petrol price increase highlights the growing discontent among Nigerians as they continue to grapple with rising living costs and economic instability.
