Police Reinvite NLC President Joe Ajaero Over Terrorism Financing Allegations

The Nigerian Police Force has re-invited Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), for further questioning regarding the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. Ajaero had previously been summoned to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Abuja, where he faced inquiries into serious allegations, including terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.

The latest summons, dated August 28, 2024, and signed by Commissioner of Police Ibitoye Rufus Alajide, requests Ajaero to attend an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) on September 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. The invitation also includes a request for Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja to accompany Ajaero.

The letter highlights the need to address allegations related to criminal intimidation, potential breaches of public peace, and malicious property damage. Ajaero is advised to contact Mr. Usman upon arrival at the FID Complex in Abuja.

Previously, Ajaero, accompanied by prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana, Marshal Abubakar, and Deji Adeyanju, attended an interview at the IRT command. The session lasted about an hour, concluding with Ajaero and his legal team departing the command.
