In a significant move aimed at revamping Nigeria’s security architecture, President Bola Tinubu has appointed new service chiefs and introduced fresh faces to handle the nation’s security apparatus. The decision comes in response to persistent calls from civil society organizations for a robust overhaul to effectively combat terrorism and other forms of criminal activities that threaten the country’s peace and stability.
Leading the pack of appointments is Nuhu Ribadu, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who has been named as the new National Security Adviser (NSA). Ribadu’s extensive experience in fighting corruption and organized crime makes him a valuable addition to the security team. He replaces Babagana Monguno, who had been serving as the NSA.
The newly appointed service chiefs include Major General C.G. Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff, Major T.A. Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral E.A. Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal H.B. Abubakar as the Chief of Air Staff. Their immediate responsibilities will involve taking charge of their respective domains and implementing the necessary reforms to enhance the country’s security doctrine.
President Tinubu has also appointed DIG Kayode Egbetokun as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, assigning him the critical task of overseeing law enforcement agencies. Additionally, Major General EPA Undiandeye has been appointed as the Chief of Defense Intelligence, tasked with intelligence gathering and analysis to strengthen national security.

Major Kamaru Koyejo Hamzat and Major TS Adeola have been assigned as the Commanding Officer of State House Military Intelligence and the Commanding Officer of State House Armament, respectively. Lieutenant A. Aminu will serve as the Second-in-Command for the State House Armament.
In addition to these appointments, President Tinubu also named two Special Advisers and two Senior Assistants.
