PSC Gives Update on 2022 Constable Recruitment List

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has firmly denied reports claiming that it is reviewing the list of successful candidates for the 2022 constable recruitment exercise. This comes amid ongoing disputes with the Nigeria Police Force over the recruitment process.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, clarified that the commission has not advised candidates to print updated invitation slips or proceed to the Police Training Colleges. Ani emphasized that any such information circulating on social media is false and warned that those spreading misinformation would face legal consequences.

This marks the second time the commission has had to issue a rebuttal concerning the recruitment exercise. The controversy began on June 4, when the PSC released a list of 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist cadre roles. The police force rejected this list, citing allegations of corruption and irregularities in the recruitment process.

Despite the police’s rejection, the PSC has remained steadfast in its decision not to cancel the list. The ongoing dispute prompted the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, to intervene. However, the matter remains unresolved.

Ani urged successful candidates to be patient and await an official statement from the PSC regarding the recruitment exercise. He stated, “The commission wishes to clarify that it has at no time issued any statement on reviewing the list of successful candidates or inviting them to check their application on the newly launched portal. The commission has not advised candidates to print any updated invitation slips and proceed to the Police Training Colleges. The date of Monday, July 22nd, 2024, mentioned on social media, is merely a fabrication by impostors.”

Ani also issued a stern warning to those spreading false information, stating that they would be apprehended and prosecuted. “The PSC also warns these unrelenting impostors to steer clear of its activities, especially the recruitment exercise, and warns that anybody caught undermining the exercise will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
