REVEALED: AFCON Prize Money for Winners, Runners-Up, and More Unveiled

In a recent announcement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the financial rewards for participating nations in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote d’Ivoire have been revealed. The staggering prize money showcases CAF’s commitment to elevating the competition and rewarding excellence in the world of African football.

The champion of AFCON 2023 will be awarded a whopping $7 million for lifting the prestigious trophy, a testament to the significance of triumph in this continental football extravaganza. The runners-up will not be left empty-handed either, as they are set to pocket an impressive $4 million for their commendable performance throughout the tournament.

Teams reaching the semi-finals but falling short of the ultimate glory will each receive $2.5 million, adding an extra layer of motivation for the squads to give their best until the very end. Moving down the ranks, the losing quarter-finalists (four teams) will each take home $1.3 million, while the eight teams eliminated in the round of 16 will receive a substantial $800,000 each.

Additionally, CAF has allocated financial incentives for teams that finished third in their respective groups but failed to advance. These teams will be granted $700,000 each, recognizing their efforts despite falling short in the group stage. Lastly, the six teams that finished at the bottom of their groups will not leave empty-handed, as they are set to receive $500,000 each as a consolation prize.
