TCN Reconstructs Storm-Damaged Transmission Towers in Kebbi

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the ongoing reconstruction of three major power transmission towers that recently collapsed along the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi power line. The towers were brought down by a strong windstorm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 5:35 p.m., leading to temporary disruptions in electricity supply across some regions.

In a swift and strategic move, TCN dispatched three independent contractors to the affected site. Each contractor was tasked with rebuilding one of the damaged towers. This division of labor is intended to speed up the recovery process and reduce the overall downtime on the transmission line. According to TCN, this approach enables simultaneous restoration efforts and helps restore operations as quickly as possible.

While full restoration work is ongoing, the company has taken interim measures to ease the effect of the disruption. Notably, power supply to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna DisCo), which serves customers in areas like Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi, has been partially restored. These regions are currently receiving between 6 megawatts (MW) and 7MW of electricity from the Mando Transmission Substation. This supply is being delivered through the 132kV Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi transmission line.

TCN expressed appreciation for the patience and support shown by the affected communities. The company reiterated its commitment to working closely with supervising engineers and field teams to complete the restoration of the 330kV line as efficiently as possible.

The company also acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the unexpected tower collapse and reassured the public that every effort is being made to restore full electricity supply without unnecessary delay.
