Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced on Monday that the messaging platform has achieved profitability. According to Durov, the company’s total revenue exceeded $1 billion in 2024.
Since launching its premium subscription service in 2022, Telegram has gained 12 million paid users. Durov also revealed that the platform is ending the year with over $500 million in cash reserves, excluding its cryptocurrency assets.
The CEO highlighted that Telegram has made significant progress in reducing its debt.
“Over the past four years, Telegram issued approximately $2 billion in debt. This fall, we repaid a substantial portion, taking advantage of favorable bond prices. However, there’s still much to accomplish,” Durov shared in a post on X.
Earlier in 2024, Durov told the Financial Times that Telegram was on track to become profitable by 2025 and hinted at plans for a future public offering.
With over 950 million monthly active users, Telegram has introduced several monetization features, including tools for businesses, an ad revenue sharing model, paid content for creators, and a mini app store.
