Tinubu Appoints New NABTEB Registrar, UBEC Chairman, and Others

In a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector, President Bola Tinubu has announced key appointments in major educational institutions. These appointments reflect his administration’s commitment to improving the quality and accessibility of education across the country.

Dr. Mohammed Aminu: New NABTEB Registrar

Dr. Mohammed Aminu has been appointed as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB). With a Ph.D. in Automobile Technology and a Master’s in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Dr. Aminu has 28 years of experience in teaching, administration, research, and policy development.

He previously served as Director of Procurement at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), where he played a key role in vocational education and skills development. His leadership at NABTEB is expected to enhance the certification of skilled professionals essential for Nigeria’s industrial growth.

Idris Olorunnimbe: Chairman of UBEC

Idris Olorunnimbe has been appointed as the Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Board. A well-known leader in youth empowerment and education, Olorunnimbe founded The Temple Company in 2016 and has led various transformative initiatives.

His previous role as a Board Member of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committees, highlights his commitment to youth employment and entrepreneurship. His leadership at UBEC is expected to drive major reforms in Nigeria’s basic education system.

Strengthening UBEC’s Leadership Team

To enhance UBEC’s operations, President Tinubu also appointed Mr. Rasaq Olajuwon as Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) and Mr. Tunde Ajibulu as Deputy Executive Secretary (Services).

Olajuwon, who previously served as Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), will oversee technical operations at UBEC. Ajibulu, a Fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), brings valuable experience from his roles at Tangent Construction Nigeria Limited and Covenant Consultancy Services. Their appointments are aimed at improving the delivery of quality basic education across the country.

Aisha Garba: Leading UBEC’s Vision

In December 2024, President Tinubu appointed Aisha Garba as the Executive Secretary of UBEC. With over 24 years of experience in international development, Garba has worked with organizations like the World Bank on education programs across multiple countries. Her leadership is expected to drive UBEC’s mission of providing quality education and ensuring Nigerian students remain globally competitive.

These strategic appointments underline President Tinubu’s dedication to reforming Nigeria’s education sector, ensuring it becomes more efficient and globally competitive.
