President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action to prevent the disconnection of Aso Rock’s electricity supply by promptly ordering the payment of the outstanding bill. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) recently issued a ‘Notice of Disconnection,’ revealing an electricity debt of N923.87 million owed by the presidential villa.
The AEDC’s 10-day notice extended to the presidential villa and 86 government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) underscored the urgency of settling the N47.1 billion electricity debt to avoid power cutoff. In response, President Tinubu swiftly directed the immediate settlement of the outstanding amount.

In an official statement, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, clarified that the reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and the AEDC revealed a discrepancy in the initially claimed debt. Contrary to the AEDC’s figure of N923 million, the outstanding bill for the State House amounted to N342,352,217.46.
President Tinubu’s directive follows this reconciliation, ensuring that the Aso Rock electricity bill will be settled before the end of the week. Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, affirmed the commitment to paying off the debt promptly.

Furthermore, the Chief of Staff encouraged other MDAs to initiate similar reconciliations with the AEDC and settle their electricity bills to avoid any potential disruptions in power supply. This move aligns with the government’s commitment to financial responsibility and adherence to obligations.
In light of these developments, President Tinubu’s proactive approach has not only averted a potential disconnection crisis but has also emphasized the importance of timely resolution and accountability in public affairs.
