The United States has announced sanctions against five senior Ugandan officials, citing allegations of corruption and human rights abuses. Among those targeted is Ugandan parliament speaker Anita Among, along with Mary Goretti Kitutu, Agnes Nandutu, and Amos Lugolobi, all accused of misappropriating public resources. Additionally, former deputy chief of the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces, Peter Elwelu, faces sanctions for alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings. These officials are now barred from entering the US, as part of a broader effort to address corruption and rights abuses in Uganda.
