In a historic election sweep, the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious, securing all 27 Local Government Chairmanship seats in the Borno State polls. Notably, this landmark victory was accompanied by the election of Inna Galadima as the first female Local Government Council Chairperson in the state.
The APC’s dominance was evident as Inna Galadima, the party’s candidate in Jere LGA, secured a decisive win with 110,459 votes. Her closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 2,478 votes, highlighting the overwhelming support for the APC in the region.
The Returning Officer of Jere LGA, Prof. Mohammed Konto, officially declared Galadima as the chairperson-elect, marking a significant milestone for gender representation in Borno State politics. Galadima, a former Commissioner and Special Adviser, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.
Alhaji Lawan Maina, the Executive Chairman of Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC), announced the comprehensive results in Maiduguri. “The ruling party, APC, won all 27 Local Government Chairmen in the state. Equally, the ruling party has won all 312 council members (councillorship) in all the wards of the state,” stated Maina.
This clean sweep solidifies APC’s political stronghold in Borno and underscores the confidence the electorate has in the party’s leadership. Alhaji Lawan Maina, serving as the Chief Returning Officer, assured that the formal certificate presentation to the winners would take place at a later date.
The election results signify not only a political triumph for APC but also a groundbreaking moment for women’s representation in Borno State, with Inna Galadima breaking barriers as the first elected female Local Government Council Chairperson.
