Gov. Nasir Idris Announces 500 New Job Opportunities for Health Workers in Kebbi State

The Kebbi State Government, led by Governor Nasir Idris, has announced plans to create 500 new job opportunities for health workers and absorb 390 GAVI-supported staff into the state workforce. This initiative aims to address critical gaps in the healthcare system, improve service delivery, and provide citizens with better access to quality healthcare services.

The governor made this announcement during the handover ceremony of the NGF/GAVI UNICEF Project in Birnin Kebbi, underscoring his administration’s commitment to improving the health sector in Kebbi State.

Strengthening Kebbi’s Healthcare Workforce

Governor Idris emphasized that the recruitment of 500 additional health professionals and the integration of GAVI-supported staff would boost the capacity of the state’s healthcare system. These steps are expected to enhance efficiency and address the shortage of skilled health workers across the state.

In addition to workforce expansion, the administration has invested heavily in healthcare infrastructure. Key initiatives include:

  • Upgrading six General Hospitals with modern facilities and equipment.
  • Introducing modern ambulances to strengthen the emergency referral system.

The governor also highlighted the contribution of the Kebbi State Contributory Health Agency, which continues to reduce the financial burden of accessing healthcare for residents.

Enhancing Maternal and Primary Healthcare

Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) have been prioritized for renovation to ensure access to quality healthcare at the community level. The state government has also begun distributing free delivery kits to pregnant women to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.

“These initiatives align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative and demonstrate our determination to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030,” Governor Idris stated.
