
In a recent development, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu as the new Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The announcement was officially confirmed by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, in a statement released on Tuesday.
Alongside the appointment of Dr. Musa Aliyu as Chairman, President Tinubu has also approved Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu to serve as the Secretary to the Commission.
The statement clarified that Dr. Musa Aliyu’s nomination as the new Chairman of the ICPC is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. This move follows the President’s approval of the outgoing Chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave, which is slated to begin on November 4, 2023, ahead of the expiration of his tenure on February 3, 2024.

It’s important to note that the position of Secretary to the Commission does not necessitate Senate confirmation. As per the President’s directive, the appointment of Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the Secretary to the Commission takes immediate effect.
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu has been known for his significant reforms as the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019. He holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Law, and his achievements include being named as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria-designate in October 2023.

Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu is a lawyer with a wealth of experience spanning over 30 years. He has previously served meritoriously in the public service as a Member of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.
President Tinubu urged the newly appointed management team of the ICPC to uphold the highest standards of integrity as they carry out their responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of impartiality in handling all matters before them.
