Kebbi Governor Vows to Sign Death Warrant for Bandit Informants Within 24 Hours of Conviction

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has issued a powerful warning to individuals aiding terrorists and criminal elements across the state. In a strong declaration made during a condolence visit to Zogirma community in Bunza Local Government Area, the governor promised to sign the death warrant of any convicted bandit informant within 24 hours of their conviction.

This statement follows the tragic killing of three brave police officers by suspected members of the Lakurawa criminal gang.

Governor Idris described informants as “bad eggs” who jeopardize national security for selfish rewards. According to him, such individuals are not worthy to live among law-abiding citizens. He emphasized that the death penalty is the only fitting punishment for betrayers who give criminals an edge over security agencies.

“I will not support life imprisonment. Informants deserve capital punishment. I will sign their death warrant within 24 hours of conviction,” the governor stated boldly.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enacting a state law that mandates the death penalty for anyone found guilty of assisting bandits. He assured residents that security remains his top priority and promised the deployment of more security forces to rural and high-risk areas.

“We will not fold our arms. We’ll do everything to make sure people sleep with both eyes closed,” he assured.

As part of immediate response measures, Governor Idris donated ₦50 million and food relief items to families of the slain officers and other victims in the affected community.

Local leaders including Bunza LGA Chairman Zayyanu Shehu and Zogirma District Head Alhaji Tijjani Muhammad praised the governor’s swift response and commitment to tackling insecurity head-on.

This firm stance by the governor is already sparking discussions across Nigeria about stricter punishment for informants who secretly aid violent groups.

With rising public demand for accountability and protection, Kebbi’s latest decision may influence other states to take similar drastic actions in the fight against banditry and terrorism.
