The National Population Commission (NPC) has announced plans to begin building numbering and household listing on April 17, in preparation for the upcoming census exercise. The State Director of NPC, Alhaji Sa’eed Yusuf, disclosed this in Ilorin, adding that the exercise will last for five days.
Yusuf noted that the building numbering and household listing are vital components of the census exercise and will help to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of the process. He also revealed that there will be a five-day training for enumerators and supervisors from April 25 to 30, in their respective Local Government Areas, to ensure the success of the exercise.
According to the director, the training of enumerators initially scheduled for March 31 had to be postponed due to logistical challenges. However, he stated that the training has been rescheduled for April 11 and will last for seven days.
The NPC Director disclosed that the actual people enumeration and housing census will commence on May 2 and end on May 7, with May 1 being observed as the census eve. He also noted that the training of Data Quality Managers was held on April 3 and 4, while the Special Workforce training for those that would assist the data managers began on April 5 and will end on April 7.
The NPC is committed to ensuring that the census exercise is conducted accurately and efficiently, with the building numbering and household listing process serving as a crucial step in achieving this goal. The upcoming census exercise is expected to provide critical data and insights into Nigeria’s population and demographics, which will be instrumental in shaping national policies and development initiatives.
