In an eagerly anticipated football spectacle, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up for a friendly face-off against the reigning World champions, Argentina. The match is scheduled to take place in March at the Olympics Sports Centre Stadium in Hangzhou, China, according to an official announcement by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) on Monday.
The AFA revealed that Argentina’s national football team, La Albiceleste, is not only set to lock horns with Nigeria but will also engage in a friendly match against Ivory Coast during their tour. This exciting fixture comes as a result of a strategic agreement between the AFA and a prominent Chinese corporation.
The March clash will reignite the historic rivalry between the Super Eagles and Argentina, as the two teams have crossed paths nine times in the past. Argentina has been dominant in the encounters, securing six victories. Notably, five of these triumphs occurred on the grand stage of the World Cup, with Argentina emerging victorious in 1994, 2002, 2010, 2014, and 2018. The only draw in their history took place in the King Fahd Cup in 1995, ending in a 0-0 stalemate.
The Super Eagles, however, have notched up victories in friendlies, with the most recent being in Abuja in 2011 and a thrilling 2-4 win in Krasonar, Russia, in 2017.
Football enthusiasts and supporters alike are eagerly anticipating this showdown between two football powerhouses. The friendly promises to showcase top-notch talent and strategic gameplay from both sides, providing fans with a thrilling spectacle.
