Residents of the Maitumbi area in Minna, Niger State, have been living in fear as suspected hoodlums wreak havoc, reportedly killing and maiming residents while raiding shops in a two-day rampage.
Eyewitnesses recount the terror that unfolded, describing how the hoodlums unleashed violence in the community. Tricyclist Ifeanyi Nwosu narrowly escaped death when attacked by the assailants while carrying passengers. “They collected all the mobile phones of the passengers,” he said, recounting his harrowing experience.

Another witness, Musa Mohammed, detailed a gruesome scene where hoodlums, allegedly under the influence of drugs, beheaded a middle-aged man and his son during the fracas.
Law enforcement authorities faced challenges as police officers attempting to quell the violence were also attacked by the rampaging hoodlums.
The chaos escalated as the hoodlums broke into shops, looting and attacking those who resisted. Reports suggest that over eight residents lost their lives, with many others sustaining injuries.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, acknowledged the street fights but assured that the situation was brought under control. “Five ring leaders of the fight were arrested,” he stated.
The aftermath of the rampage leaves the community grappling with grief and trauma, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced security measures to safeguard residents and restore peace in the affected area.
